Why all women are Britney Spears
I have never been famous.
I think that probably doesn’t need to be said, but there it is.
I am female, though, and as I watched the Britney documentary, I thought, damn, that’s everyone.
That’s society right there.
Then, and now.
Britney is basically any woman.
She is all women.
She’s told to be pretty, pure, innocent, but also sexy.
It’s a bizarre double standard, but it still exists.
The world that expected that from her hasn’t changed at all.
Last week my young niece, nine, wore a sports bra and joggers with her Jordan’s.
Of course, she is the cutest thing I’ve ever seen, but a sports bra?
At nine?
The kid is rail-thin. There is no need for a bra at all.
Her mom even mentioned it and said, “yeah, the bra, it’s ridiculous, but all her friends are wearing them too.” I get it.
My Eighteen-year-old daughter wears the same outfits, nearly identical.
We joke about how the nine year old is my daughter’s mini-me.
It sure is adorable, but is it wrong?
I don’t know.
